Shorinji Kempo teaches that the course of human events depends entirely
upon the actions of people, and the only way to establish a peaceful society
is to develop as many people as possible with mercy, courage and a sense of
justice who will help and co-operate with others. Through the training and
teachings of Shorinji Kempo many people find their approach to life is
changed and they become a better person.

Ken Golding - 1st Kyu (Brown Belt)
Ken is the Southampton Dojo's club captain. He gives an excellent account
of why he started training and why he chose Shorinji Kempo. Please
take the time to download his page and read his insights to Shorinji
Kempo. |

Norman Mohamed - 1st Dan
I started training when I was 38 years old. I saw a local advert from
the community centre explaining that Shorinji Kempo helps you understand
your inner abilities, muscles, tendons and inner-tension. At the time I
was suffering from a crushed vertebrae in my neck. Sensei
Peter Moore worked on me for years and years, with Seiho and
shiatsu.
I am fitter and stronger now than at any time of my life.
I didn't join Shorinji Kempo to learn to fight. I met this great
person, Sensei Peter Moore who understood
and took time helping me with my Dyslexia, aggression and hardness. I
owe all the development of my gentleness and softness to him and
Shorinji Kempo. |

Mike George- 3rd Kyu (Green Belt)
I started training in October 2000 when I was 29. I was interested in
Buddhist concepts and meditation as a way to overcome panic attacks and
depression. I needed to fully understand these, the only way to do this
is to experience Zen directly. Shorinji Kempo seemed to me an ideal
system for this, and it is proving to be so, with it's way to unite mind
body and spirit.
Why do I continue training?
The reasons are many and putting them into words is very difficult,
but I would say the sense of well being after training is the obvious
one. The Comradeship and friendly manner of the people training with you
is also very encouraging. Also the sprit of self-reliance aspect, making
me stronger and growing as a human-being. |

Fiona Chua- 2nd Kyu (Blue Belt)
I started in November 1999 for exercise and to learn self defence. I
continue because of my friends at Shorinji Kempo and because I am more
confident and a lot fitter since I started. |

Sean Welch - 2nd Kyu (Blue Belt)
I started Shorinji Kempo about 3 years ago because I was being
bullied at school and out side school. From my training I have got more
knowledge and self confidence.
I keep training because I enjoy it and want to keep going with this
Martial Art. |

Graham Welch - 2nd Kyu (Blue Belt)
I starter training because my kids were training, and as I was there
I thought I would give it a go. But I had to be careful because of an
existing back injury. A year or more of training has strengthened my
back, which is good for me, and has helped me tone my body. It has also
taught me Self Defence. |

Emma Welch - 5th Kyu
I started training when I was 9, in 1998 to learn self defence and to
keep me fit. I have learnt to protect my self and I have now learnt all
the techniques for my next grading. |
