Alresford Shorinji Kempo Club

The Arlesford dojo was set up to cater for teaching self-defence to the girls at Arlesford school. It has since expanded to teach all ages from the school, and the local community of Winchester.

Sensei Ade runs the classes, a 3rd Dan in Shorinji Kempo and serving member of Hampshire Constabulary. As a police officer Adrian's experiences place him in a good position to offer practical advice, on how to avoid dangerous situations, and what to do if and when they occur.

Sensei Andrew Garner, a 2nd Dan in Shorinji Kempo who has been training in Shorinji Kempo for 10 years, assists him at the club, Andrew is also a qualified ASA Level 1 Assistant Instructor.

Other students from the Southampton University branch heavily support the class with attendance and assistance.

Who's it for?

The classes are for any age or fitness range with improvement being worked at individually rather than as a competition, the emphasis remains on a self-defence martial art, with the additional huge bonus of improving students' fitness and flexibility with better coordination and improved confidence as a result.

Shorinji Kempo is a Japanese martial art; the original purpose of the martial art was to create strong and confident individuals, capable of deciding what was right and wrong, and standing up for themselves and their beliefs.

At present there are a dozen women regularly attending with space for about 15 more in the class, applicants will be admitted on a first come first served basis after which there will be a waiting list of interested parties.
